Giannis Metzikof: Outfits and short-stories
A fine album entitled “Metzikof: Outfits and short-stories” is the outcome of the collaboration between the “Victoria G. karelias Collection of Greek traditional costumes” and Giannis Metzikof, the outstanding costume designer and painter. 250 sketches in tempera and pencil which depict traditional costumes from Greece, Cyprus, and Asia Minor, accompanied by 23 short-stories which talk about marriage, murder, mourning and emigration, illustrate a life unknown to us like “the mirroring of a lost universe” according to the artist. This work was based on a long term research in the Library of the Greek Parliament, where the artist consulted hundreds of books to establish the way Greek men and women of each region dressed so that he reproduced it accurately.
